Well-Balanced Attack Leads Marauders To Victory Over Golden Eagles

BISMARCK, ND – Strong defense, knock down shooting, and a quartet of University of Mary women's basketball players in double figures led the Marauders to a 78-70 win over Minnesota Crookston. The Marauders dominated in the paint, outscoring the Golden Eagles 44-28 inside while shooting over 50 percent from the field. Cassie Askvig led the way with 28 points. Lauren Rotunda pitched in 18 with Coral Gillette adding 15 and Lexie Schneider posting 13. Of the Marauders 31 made field goals, the team recorded assists on 23 of them. On the defensive end, the Marauders had 10 steals and four blocked shots with Lexie Schneider leading the way with three steals and Lauren Rotunda posting two blocks.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 19-10 on the season and 13-7 in NSIC play. UMC falls to 4-20 on the season and 3-17 in conference play. The Marauders conclude regular season home play with an impressive 12-3 record in the McDowell Activity Center.
 
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders jumped out to a 20-16 lead in the first quarter. Coral Gillette made it rain, knocking down three treys to lead all Marauders scorers. The Golden Eagles were able to chip away at Umary's lead, tying things up at 30 midway through the second. However, the Marauders closed out the half on a 9-0 run to take a 39-30 lead into the intermission. Cassie Askvig began to take over in the second quarter, scoring eight points to up her total to 10. Gillette led the Marauders in first half points with 12 off of four made treys.

 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders extended their lead to 19 points at the end of the third quarter. Cassie Askvig added 11 more points in the period to lead the Marauders efforts. UMC was able to chip away at the lead in the fourth quarter, cutting the difference down to eight, but the Marauders were able to hold the Golden Eagles back and clinch the win.
