Marauders Claim Home Court Playoff Game With Big Win Over Beavers

BISMARCK, ND – Grit and determination led the University of Mary women's basketball team to a strong come from behind win that featured the Marauders outscoring the Beavers by 21 points in the second half. The Marauders rattled off five straight three pointers in the final three minutes of the third quarter to steal away all the momentum and take their first lead of the game heading into the fourth quarter. UMary's 72-60 win was powered by 22 points by Lauren Rotunda, 19 by Cassie Askvig, and 13 by Megan Voit.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 18-10 on the season and 12-7 in Northern Sun play. Bemidji State falls to 7-16 overall and 4-15 in the conference.
 
With the victory, the Marauders clinch a first-round home playoff game.
 
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
Bemidji State was able to come out on fire in the first quarter, knocking down six treys in the opening period to take a 22-16 lead. The Beavers were able to build on that lead and take a nine point lead into half. 10 points by Lauren Rotunda and nine by Cassie Askvig led the way for UMary

 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN

The Marauders found themselves down 12 with 3:12 remaining in the third when a Carly Kottsick layup started a 17-2 run in the closing minutes. Coral Gillette knocked down back to back three pointers to cut into the lead. Megan Voit joined the three point party by knocking down one of her own to bring UMary within one. Moments later Gillette knocked down her third three of the quarter to tie the game up at 50. With time winding down, Carly Kottsick drained a superb buzzer beating three to give the Marauders their first lead of the game 53-50. UMary sealed the deal on the win from the free throw line, knocking down all 12 of their attempts in the fourth quarter.
