SIOUX FALLS, SD – Red hot from deep, the University of Mary women's basketball team knocked down a total of 15 three pointers in the 80-73 loss to Augustana University.
Megan Voit led the way for the Marauders with a career high of 20 points, knocking down six three pointers.
Coral Gillette joined the three point party, knocking down five of her own to account for 17 points. In total five different players recorded UMary's 15 trey balls with
Macy Williams,
Lauren Rotunda, and
Carly Kottsick all adding buckets from behind the arc of their own to join. UMary was statistically dominant in the game posting a higher shooting percentage than the Vikings from the field, from deep, and from the free throw line while outrebounding them and recording more assists. The difference in the ball game was Augie's ability to outscore UMary 27-2 in points off turnovers. The Marauders would miss their post
Lexie Schneider, out with an injury, after being outscored 24-20 in the paint.
Cassie Askvig was a force on the boards during the game, posting a season high of 15 rebounds to go with her 15 points.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 15-10 overall and 9-7 in conference play. Augustana improves to 13-7 overall and 9-7 in the NSIC.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The first half was all Marauders with the team building a lead as large as 14 points in the second quarter. UMary would head into the half with a 10 point lead over the Vikings. The Marauders knocked down five first quarter three pointers, six in the first half. 11 points from
Megan Voit led the way for UMary.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders came out in the second half on fire from deep, draining nine from behind the arc in the second half. Voit recorded four from deep and Gillette added three of her own in the second half. As a team the Marauders knocked down 50 percent of their second half three point attempts. Nine of the Marauders twelve second half field goals came from deep. Despite UMary being on fire from deep, Augie was able to chip away at the lead, shooting 58 percent from deep, making seven three pointers of their own in the second half. The Vikings also knocked down 16 second half free throws. Augie outscored UMary 53-36 in the final two quarters to claim the win.

The Marauders will return home for a pair of games next weekend. UMary hosts Upper Iowa on Friday, February 7 at 5:30 PM. They follow that up with a 3:30 PM tipoff on Saturday, February 8 against Winona State. Both games will be played in the McDowell Activity Center.
