Kaiser, Carr pace Marauders offense in 76-68 loss to Vikings

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The duo of Trever Kaiser and Wyatt Carr led the University of Mary in scoring for a second straight game in the Marauders 78-68 loss at Augustana University. The pair combined for 28 points against the Vikings, one night after they collaborated for 35 points against Wayne State College.

Kaiser provided instant offense off the bench for the Marauders once again, scoring a team-high 15 points. The sophomore hit three treys in the game and all four free throws, grabbed five rebounds, dished three assists and made two steals.

Carr posted 13 points, making 3-of-4 shots behind the arc.

Kaiser had 18 points against the Wildcats on Friday and Carr added 17 in the overtime loss.

Connor Hellebust was the other UMary player to reach double figures in points, scoring 11 in the game. He hit two treys and had three assists. Matthew Kreklow added six points and ten rebounds.

UMary led 38-36 at intermission but struggled to hit shots in the second half against Augie. After making 42.4 percent of their shots in the first half – including a 7-of-13 effort behind the arc – the Marauders connected on just 35.5 percent of their field goals in the second half while making 3-of-11 treys.

Augie made just 2-of-18 trey attempts but made 44 percent of its shots in the second half after shooting 33 percent in the opening period.

After a Kade Amundson layup pulled the Marauders (10-12 overall, 5-11 NSIC) within 57-54 with just under nine minutes left in the game, Augie (13-9, 8-8) scored seven straight points to build a 10-point advantage. UMary pulled within six at 72-66 on a pair of Kaiser free throws but could never pull closer.

The Marauders return home to begin a four-game home stand against Upper Iowa University on Friday, Feb. 7.
