CROOKSTON, MN – A 20-8 run by the University of Mary women's basketball team in the last 4:30 of regulation clinched the come from behind victory for the Marauders by a score of 77-73. UMary claimed their first lead of the game with just 58 seconds remaining, holding on from there to clinch the win.
Cassie Askvig,
Lauren Rotunda, and
Macy Williams all scored double figures with 24 points by Askvig leading the way.
With the win the Marauders improve to 13-9 overall and 7-6 in the NSIC. UMC falls to 2-15 overall and 1-12 in the Northern Sun.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
Minnesota Crookston was able to come out on fire, shooting 58 percent from the field and 50 percent from deep to take a six-point lead heading into half. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 9-2 lead early, but the Marauders fought back, tying the game up three separate times in the first half but they couldn't claim a first half lead. Askvig led the way with 13 points. Rotunda added nine.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders were able to bring the game back to within one a few times during the third quarter but it wasn't until the end of the fourth quarter when the Marauders took their first lead of the game. With just 58 seconds left, Askvig scored in the paint to give UMary a one point lead. The Marauders then went 6-6 on free throws in the last 21 seconds of play to clinch the win.
Megan Voit, Askvig, and Williams all knocked down a pair of shots from the charity stripe in the closing seconds.
