BISMARCK, ND – Cassie Askvig continued her scoring dominance for the second straight night. The University of Mary forward recorded 32 points, nearly half of the teams total points as the Marauders fell 80-65 to St. Cloud State. The Marauders made a strong fourth quarter push but SCSU, shooting nearly 60 percent from the floor was able to respond and claim victory.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 12-7 on the season and 6-4 in NSIC play. SCSU improves to 10-4 overall and 7-3 in the Northern Sun.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the first quarter and extended that to 15-12 at the end of the first half. SCSU came out in the second quarter on fire, outscoring the Marauders by 11 to take an eight point lead into half. Cassie Askvig led the Marauders with 12 first half points.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
UMary and SCSU exchanged blows in a high scoring third quarter with SCSU holding a slight advantage 25-24 in the third to head into the final quarter up nine. UMary used an immediate run in the fourth quarter to cut the lead down to four. The Huskies responded pushing the lead out of reach and ultimately claiming the win. Askvig had 20 second half points to lead UMary's second half charge.
