BISMARCK, ND – A career scoring night by
Cassie Askvig paired with a massive double double by
Lauren Rotunda allowed the University of Mary women's basketball team to hand University of Minnesota Duluth their first NSIC loss of the season. The duo combined for 54 of the Marauders 76 points with Askvig posting a career high of 36 points and
Lauren Rotunda recording 18 points and 13 rebounds. UMary improved to 8-0 in the McDowell Activity Center with their 76-67 victory.
With the win the Marauders improve to 12-6 on the season and 6-3 in NSIC play. UMD falls to 11-4 overall and 8-1 in the Northern Sun.
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders got things going right away in the first half, hopping out to a 7-0 lead and eventually built it up to a 20-10 lead. UMD then rallied off a 12-0 run to make the game competitive again. The two teams continued to exchange buckets with the Bulldogs heading to the half up two.
Cassie Askvig led the team in scoring in the first half with 13 points.
Lauren Rotunda added eight points and eight rebounds.
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders were able to retake the lead in the third quarter, building up to a five point lead at the end of the third. The five point differential would be as close as the Bulldogs could get in the fourth quarter with UMary building their lead and finishing strong. Strong free throw shooting down the stretch allowed the Marauders to claim a nine point win. Askvig topped her big first half with 23 points in the second half. Rotunda continued to score and rebound, recording 10 points and five rebounds in the second half.
