BILLINGS, MT – The University of Mary Men's Soccer team wrapped up their western road trip today with a game against Montana State University Billings. The Marauders came into the game looking to bring down their biggest rival, bringing forth tremendous effort. A Marauders goal by Luca Manzotti with just 11 seconds left in the game forced overtime against MSUB. The Yellowjackets were able to score a few minutes into the extra period to steal victory away from the Marauders.
"A big improvement from Friday," stated University of Mary Head Men's Soccer Coach Dave Cook. "Great fight to score late and force overtime."
After a scoreless first period, MSUB was able to get on the board first with a goal in the 64th minute of play.
The Marauders fought hard to even the score in regulation and they did just that. With just 11 seconds remaining in the match, Luca Manzotti fired in his first goal as a Marauder to even the score at one and send the game into overtime.
"The goal was a great team effort involving multiple players." Stated Cook. "Fantastic execution of the final shot by Luca to equalize."
MSUB was able to clinch the match with a goal two minutes into overtime to take a 2-1 victory. "Very disappointing to concede in overtime so early," stated Cook.
Dawson Fairchild continued to be very impressive in the net, facing 24 shots on the game, 14 of which were on frame. The Marauders freshman recorded a game high of 12 saves.
"Dawson had a great game," stated Cook. "In the end you just can't play in a way where your keeper needs to make 12 saves."
The Marauders will return home for a pair of games next. On October 6. UMary will celebrate 25 years of soccer with a men's and women's soccer double header. The men will host Presentation College on Sunday, October 6 at 3:30 PM at the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck, ND.
