Offensive Explosion Leads Marauders To Victory Over Presentation College

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary men's soccer team exploded for five goals against Presentation College, giving them a 5-2 victory! On the weekend the Marauders celebrate 25 years of UMary soccer, the men's soccer team put on a dominant performance to claim their first win of the season. A controlling offensive attack featured four different Marauders recording UMary's five goals.

With the win the Marauders improve to 1-8 on the season.

"It was good to win," stated Head Coach Dave Cook. "It was good to score five goals. We need to be much sharper at times but this is something we can build on."

Adam Stringer got the scoring going for the Marauders in the 8th minute of play. Mitch Carter fired a shot on goal that popped straight up in the air off of the goalkeepers hands, Stringer gained the rebound and fired a shot into the back of the net to give UMary a 1-0 lead.

Less than six minutes later, Tresor Mugawaneza recorded a goal when he received an assist from Blake Palmquist, followed by some fancy footwork and a shot fired past the goalkeeper to put UMary up 2-0.

Presentation College responded in the 50th minute when Richard Shaw scored bringing the game to 2-1.

Mugawaneza extended the Marauders lead back to two when he received another assist from Blake Palmquist that led him up the field where he was able to blast a shot past the keeper for the goal.

Eduardo Melo scored for the Saints in the 62nd minute off a penalty kick, bringing the score to 3-2.

Five minutes later, Luca Manzotti scored off an assist from Mugawaneza to give UMary a 4-2 lead. This was Manzotti's second game in a row with a goal.

Zack Jensen sealed victory for the Marauders with his goal in the 85th minute of play to put UMary up 5-2. Some tremendous passing led to this goal for Jensen. Stanley Joseph led Mitch Carter up the field with a pass, Carter then dropped the ball to Jensen for a Marauders goal.

"It is always good to score and even better when the goals are distributed," said Cook.

The Marauders held a 22-17 advantage in shots with the Saints holding a 12-11 advantage in shots on goal.

Lukas Billhardt earned the win in the goal for the Marauders, recording a game high of 10 saves.

"It was amazing to see all of the alumni back this weekend, sharing stories and catching up," said Cook on celebrating 25 years of UMary Soccer this weekend.

The Marauders will look to continue on with their winning ways as they host their final home game of the season on Wednesday October 9 at 7 PM against Dakota Wesleyan University. The game will take place at the MDU Resources Community Bowl. Come out and cheer on your Marauders as they honor their seniors.
