WAYNE, NE – The University of Mary volleyball team traveled further south to take on national powerhouse Wayne State. UMary was able to hang tough in the second set against the #17 Wildcats but WSC was too much to handle all around, taking the Marauders down in three sets. The Marauders held the advantage in digs, recording 58 digs compared to 50 for WSC.
With the loss the Marauders fall to 1-11 and 0-4 in conference play. Wayne State improves to 12-1 and 3-1 in the NSIC.
PIVOT POINT
WSC was able to take the first set but the Marauders did not give up, coming out in the second set to take an 18-17 lead. The Wildcats then ran off five straight points as part of an 8-3 run to claim the second set. With momentum on their side they claimed the third set.

Sydney Murphy had 18 assists, 12 digs, three kills with a .500 hitting percentage, and an ace
Morgan Schnabel recorded eight kills, three blocks, and four digs
Katja Berge had four kills, five digs, and two blocks
Natalia Cruz had a game high of 16 digs to go along with four assists
Hannah Hanson had four blocks and three kills with a .250 hitting percentage
Caitlin Schneeweis had 14 digs and three kills

Sydney Murphy reached the double digit, double-double mark during today's game. This is twice as much as she recorded during the entirety of last season. Murphy did a bit of everything for the Marauders recording 18 assists, 12 digs, an ace, and three kills with a .500 hitting percentage.

The Marauders battle instate rivals Minot State on Tuesday, October 1 at 6 PM in Minot, ND. They will follow that up with two home matches. The first will be against Minnesota Duluth on Friday, October 4 at 6 PM in the McDowell Activity Center. They will follow that up with a game on Saturday, October 5 at 2 PM against St Cloud State in the MAC. The match against SCSU will be a pink out.
