Marauders take shutout streak on weekend road trip to Augie, Wayne State

THIS WEEK
The University of Mary women's soccer team opens the travel portion of their 2019 Northern Sun schedule when the Marauders visit the Augustana Vikings and the Wayne State College Wildcats. On Friday, Sept. 27, at 4 pm, UMary visits the Vikings in Sioux Falls, SD. The weekend concludes with a visit to Wayne, NE, on Sunday, Sept. 29, when the Marauders and eh Wildcats kick off at 1 pm.

RECORDS
The Marauders enter the weekend with a mark of 2-0-1 overall and 0-0-1 in the NSIC… Augustana is 3-1-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the NSIC… Wayne State College is 1-2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NSIC.

LIGHTNING STRIKE
The Marauders schedule home and Northern Sun opener against Northern State University on Friday, Sept. 20, was postponed after just 12 minutes of play due to persistent lightning. After moving kickoff up two hours in hopes of beating the inclement weather, the game was delayed prior to the start and then 12 minutes into the contest, never to resume as lighting continued to flash within 10 miles of the MDU Resources Community Bowl. The game will be rescheduled at a future date with a complete restart.

REWIND
The Marauders posted their third straight shutout top start the season when UMary played MSU Moorhead to a scoreless draw. With advantages in nearly every statistical category, UMary did everything but score. Defensively the Marauders held the Dragons without a shot on frame and five shots overall. The Marauders attempted 12 shots and put five on frame, including two in the second overtime. UMary also had a 10-3 edge in corner kicks, including five straight during a three minute span in the first half. The Marauders also had possession of the ball for 58 percent of the game. Sidney Burrell led the Marauders with four shot attempts and Taylor Pettigrew had three, including two on frame.

DEEE-FENCE
The Marauders defense has been stellar through the first three games of the season. UMary has yet to allow a goal and the three opponents have combined for 19 shots total with only eight on frame. The Marauders really tightened the screws on Black Hills State (4 shots, 2 on frame) and MSU Moorhead (five shots, 0 on frame).

BLANKETY BLANK
The Marauders and Minnesota State University are the only two teams in the NSIC yet to allow a goal this season… UMary is one of six teams in NCAA Division II who has yet to allow a goal this season.

NATIONAL LEADER
Sophomore goalkeeper Madisyn Waltman is tied for the NCAA lead in goals allowed (0.00) and save percentage (1.000). The Marauders are one of just six teams in the country who has yet to allow a goal.

11
The 0-0 draw against MSU Moorhead was the 11th career clean sheet posted by Madisyn Waltman. The sophomore is now seventh on the UMary career shutout leaderboard. The record is 25 by Kristin Werner, followed by Rachael Dietrich (22),  Brannigan Coyle (20), Carly Feiler (17), Yolanda Davis (12) and Ashley Akers (12).

2-0-1
For just the second time in the program's NCAA era beginning in 2006, the Marauders haven't posted a loss through three games as UMary is off to a 2-0-1 start. And this is the first time in those 14 seasons the team has posted a shutout in the opening three games. The last time the Marauders won their first two games of the season and was undefeated through three games was 2017 when UMary opened with three consecutive wins.
