Marauders Fall to MSUB In Rivalry Matchup

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary men's soccer team welcomed their longest standing rivals to town for the final soccer game to be played on the UMary campus pitch this season. Montana State – Billings was able to hold the advantage over the Marauders today, claiming a 3-1 victory. With the loss, UMary falls to 0-6 and MSUB improves to 2-3-1

A slow starting Marauders allowed MSUB to get on the board at the 21 minute mark and the 23 minute mark to take a 2-0 lead over UMary.

The Marauders were able to turn things up after the slow start, responding with a goal of their own in the 37th minute. Stringer was able to draw a foul off of a corner kick which set him up for a penalty kick. Stringer blasted a shot past the MSUB keeper to bring the match to 2-1. This was Adam Stringers first goal of the season.

The Yellowjackets recorded a late goal in the 84th minute of play to push the game out of reach for the Marauders.

MSUB held the advantage in shots with 14, eight on frame. UMary totaled seven shots, five of which were on frame. Five different Marauders recorded the five shots on goal.

UMary held the advantage in save with freshman goalkeeper Dawson Fairchild recording a total of five. MSUB's keeper recorded four.

"Probably the best thing is we get to play them again here soon," stated UMary Head Soccer Coach Dave Cook.

UMary will have their chance at redemption when they take on MSUB for the second time this season in just six short days, in Billings, MT.

Before the rematch of MSUB and UMary, the Marauders will head to Nampa, ID to take on Northwest Nazarene University on Friday, September 27 at 6 PM.
