BISMARCK, ND – The MAC was packed to cheer on the University of Mary volleyball team during their home opener. A home opener which also happened to be the NSIC opener against Northern Sun foe #9 Southwest Minnesota State. UMary was seemingly up to the task of taking down the national powerhouse in the first set, exchanging blows with SMSU, narrowly dropping the set. The Mustangs then put their foot on the gas and took sets two and three, sweeping the Marauders.
THE RECORD
With the loss the Marauders fall to 1-8 on the season and the Mustangs improve to 7-2.
PIVOT POINT
The Marauders came out with something to prove in the first set, exchanging points back and forth in the thrilling first set. SMSU was able to go on a small run to claim the first set. Winning the first set put momentum on the side of the Mustangs, allowing them to take the next two sets and the match.

Morgan Schnabel recorded six kills, two aces, and a block on the game
Katja Berge posted three kills, two aces, and five digs
Madison Bergthold recorded five kills and two blocks with a .556 hitting percentage
Sydney Murphy posted 17 assists, three digs, one block, and one dig

Julianna Hughes recorded three kills and three digs with a .222 hitting percentage
STAT OF THE GAME
Madison Bergthold did a little bit of everything for the Marauders and she did it efficiently. The junior recorded a hitting percentage of .556. Bergthold accounted for six Marauders points, second most on the team with her five kills and two block assists.
