Marauders Show They Can Hang With Nations Best In Narrow Loss Against #13 ENMU

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary Men's Soccer team welcomed nationally ranked Eastern New Mexico University to town for a home match on the University of Mary campus pitch. The Marauders showed they can hang with the best in the nation against the #13 Greyhounds, falling by the narrowest of margins, 1-0.

"Today, we showed that we have a team that can play with really anyone in the country," stated Head Coach Dave Cook. "We have an idea of how we want to play and we're executing at a very high level."

The Marauders certainly executed at a very high level today, holding ENMU scoreless in the first half. UMary had three very big chances in the first half to get on the board but just could not find the back of the net, leading to a scoreless first half.

Eastern New Mexico was able to get on the board early in the second half on a goal in the 47th minute of play. UMary had another big chance to get on the board near the end but just could not convert.

Dawson Fairchild had a tremendous game in the net. In just his second collegiate start, Fairchild stopped seven of the eight shots he faced from the national powerhouse.

"When we recruited him, we knew his ceiling was very, very high," said Cook. He definitely showed today that he has the capability to be one of the best goalkeepers in Division II.

Only a freshman, Fairchild proved he belonged with his impressive performance against #13 ENMU.

"For a freshman to come into the game like that and play without fear only speaks to how good he really is going to become," stated Cook.

The Marauders return to action on Monday, September 23. UMary will host MSU Billings on the University of Mary campus pitch. Game time is set for 3 PM.
