KEARNEY, NE – The University of Mary volleyball team closed out play at the UNK Fall Classic today with matches against Arkansas Tech and #17 Rockhurst. The Marauders fought hard but couldn't overcome their talented opposition, falling to Arkansas Tech in four sets and Rockhurst in three. Sydney Murphy extended her double-double streak to eight. With today's losses the Marauders fall to 1-7 on the season.

The Marauders battled hard against Arkansas Tech bringing the match to four sets but with ATU holding the statistical advantage in all aspects, the Marauders couldn't make a comeback. Arkansas Tech was able to jump out to an early lead, taking the first two sets but Marauders didn't give up, taking the third and forcing a fourth set. In a competitive fourth set, Arkansas Tech was able to hold the advantage and win the match. Murphy and Nietfeld both recorded double-doubles on the game.
PIVOT POINT
Arkansas Tech jumped out to an early 2-0 lead, but the Marauders did not give up winning the third. UMary was able to jump out an early lead in the fourth set but ATU fought back, taking a 20-17 lead late. They then went on a 5-2 run to claim the set and the match.

Morgan Schnabel is no stranger to posting game highs in kills but on this game, she tied for game highs in blocks and aces. The Marauders junior posted four blocks and two aces on the game. She also tied for a team high in digs with 13.

The Marauders faced a tall task in facing nationally ranked Rockhurst. UMary gave it their all but were unable to take down #17 Rockhurst. The Hawks took down the Marauders in three sets. The Marauders held the advantage in digs over RU with 39 in total.
PIVOT POINT
UMary only trailed 12-10 early in the first set. The Hawks then went on a 13-2 run to claim the set. With momentum on the side of Rockhurst, they were able to claim the next two sets to sweep UMary.

Sydney Murphy continued to dominate. She recorded her eighth straight double-double this year. Murphy posted 18 assists, 11 digs, and two aces. All these stats were team highs for the Marauders.

The Marauders host their home opener and open up NSIC play next weekend. UMary battles SMSU on Friday, September 20 at 6 PM in the McDowell Activity Center. They will follow that up with a match against Sioux Falls on Saturday, September 21 at 2 PM in the Mac.
