RAPID CITY, SD – The University of Mary Men's Soccer team returned to action today against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in a road contest. The Marauders fought hard but were unable to capitalize, falling to the Hardrockers 2-1.
 
"I thought our effort and fight were amazing," stated Marauders coach Dave Cook. "We created seven or eight big chances at the feet of our best attacking players and we came away with only one goal. We just have to take an honest look at ourselves and realize we must do better in front of the goal."
 
Blake Palmquist got the Marauders on the board off of a strike in the 56^th minute of play. This was the sophomores first goal of the season.
 
"Blake was very good today and is going to become a very good player," stated Cook. "Amazing to think he is only a sophomore."
 
The goal by Palmquist evened the match at 1-1 but SD Mines were able to respond less than a minute later with a goal of their own to retake the lead.
 
SDSMT tallied a goal in each half of play, recording goals at the 32 minute mark and 57 minute mark.
 
SD Mines held the advantage 15 to 13 in shots and 8 to 4 in shots on goal. Lukas Billhardt recorded a game high of six saves, three in each half of play.
 
"It has been a tough three games," said Cook. "Our record certainly doesn't reflect the quality in our team."
 
The Marauders will close out their four-game road stretch with a neutral site match against Humboldt State in Billings, MT.  "I know we will bring our best on Sunday against a very good Humboldt State team," said Cook.
