BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary women's soccer team makes its 2019 home debut on Labor Day when the Marauders host the University of Jamestown in an exhibition game. The final tune-up prior to the regular season, the Marauders-Jimmies game is set for 7 PM on Monday, Sept. 2, at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
Under the direction of head coach
Sarah Cook, the Marauders opened fall training on August 19 with 26 student-athletes. Among the early highlights was the involvement of Olympic Gold Medalist and former professional goalkeeper Jullian Loyden, who worked with both the UMary women's and men's team.
The Marauders headed west to train and scrimmage, including a stop at Port Angeles, WA, where UMary scholar-athletes
Malia Brudvik and
Samantha Guzman both played for Peninsula College before transferring to the University of Mary.
Now the Marauders take the opportunity to play in front of the home crowd as the squad continues to prepare for the regular season. Led by returning All-NSIC Player
Kylee Welch and fellow NSIC Player to Watch
Sidney Burrell, the Marauders have significant experience, especially in the middle and the back lines. Fourteen payers are back, including seven who started at least ten games a year ago.
Following the exhibition game, the Marauders wait until Sept. 12 to start the regular season against Black Hills State University in a neutral site game in Billings., MT. UMary then plays MSU Billings on Sept. 14.
The home opener is slated for Sept. 20 when Northern State University arrives for what is also the first Northern Sum game of the season.
