St. Cloud, MN – Facing off against one of the nation's best team, the University of Mary pitchers had an impressive afternoon. Paced by freshmen
Jonathan Draheim and
Daniel Turner, the Marauders allowed just seven hits over two games to a potent St. Cloud State University attack. The 14
th ranked Huskies pitchers proved even better. SCSU limited visiting UMary to five hits in the two games and swept the Northern Sun doubleheader 1-0 and 4-0.
GAME 1 St. Cloud State University 1 UMary 0
Locked up in a pitcher's duel for a second straight start,
Jonathan Draheim landed on the wrong side of a 1-0 score once again. The freshman righthander, who took the loss in the Marauders 1-0 extra inning decision last Friday against Southwest Minnesota State University, was dealt the same fate again, this time against one of the best teams in the nation.
Draheim limited the 14
th ranked Huskies, who are also rated third in the regional poll, to two hits in a six-inning complete game. Both hits came in the second inning, along with his only walk of the game and one of the two batters he hit as SCSU scored their lone run.
Dominant as the game progressed, Draheim retired 13 straight hits to end the game. Eight of the final 13 hitters were retired on fly balls. After striking out 12 hitters in his last outing against the Mustangs, Draheim didn't strike out a hitter in the game.
As impressive as Draheim was, Huskies hurler Dominic Austing was just as impressive. He also limited the Marauders to five baserunners – two hits and three walks – and struck out seven hitters in a seven inning complete game. One of the top pitchers in the NSIC this season after earning all-conference and all-region honors last year, Austing improves to 7-0 on the season.
PIVOT POINT
Draheim allowed only five baserunners all day and four came in the second inning. The Huskies loaded the bases on a pair of single and a walk with one out before a fly ball to right off the bat of Aaron Hammann scored Caeden Harris with the only run of the game. After the run scored, Draheim walked the next batter to fill the bases before retiring the side on a ground out… The Marauders threatened to score in the second and the sixth innings but couldn't push a run across. Jesus Payam led off the second with a single and moved to second on a passed ball before he was stranded.
Nick McCann walked and stole second base with two outs but advanced no further.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jonathan Draheim allowed two hits and one run, walked one hitter and hit two others in a six-inning complete

GAME 2 St. Cloud State University 4 UMary 0
While unable to match the complete game shutout he tossed in his last appearance, freshman righthander
Daniel Turner held an explosive Huskies offense in check most of the game. After allowing three runs – two earned – in the first two innings, Turner retired 11 straight hitters to keep the Marauders within striking distance. But as strong as Turner proved to be when he found his groove, SCSU starter Matthew Osterberg teamed with four relievers met the challenge. UMary managed just three hits in the game and managed to get a pair of runners on base in the same inning just once.
PIVOT POINT
The Huskies scored all the runs they needed in the first inning. Lenny Walker singled with one out, stole second and scored on an Aaron Hammenn single for a quick 1-0 lead. A pair of defensive lapses eventually led to Hammann scoring an unearned run to double the SCSU lead… UMary tried to close the gap early by placing runners on second base in both the third and fourth innings. Both chances came with two outs in the inning and the Marauders were unable to capitalize.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
