Darius Barlas doubled, scored two runs and made a key defensive play and pitchers
Parker McRae and
Charles Bielejeski combined to allow just a pair of runs in an opening game 3-2 win over the University of Minnesota Crookston in a Northern Sun doubleheader. The Golden Eagles bounced back to capture game two 11-7 in a slugfest featuring a combined five home runs, including two by the Marauders.
Originally scheduled to be played at Municipal Ballpark in Bismarck, ND, snowfall on Thursday into Friday moved the three-game set to the Rough Rider Center in Watford City, ND.

Parker McRae and
Charles Bielejeski limited the Golden Eagles to six hits and two runs over seven innings of the 3-2 Marauders win. McRae struck out four in 5.1 innings to earn the win before Bielejeski closed the game out with 1.2 scoreless innings.
PIVOT POINT
After both teams traded runs, the Marauders tallied twice in the fifth inning. Leadoff hitter Barlas was hit by a pitch and
Jesus Payan followed with a single. A ground ball placed runners on the corners before a
Daulton Sauce fielder's choice scored Barlas from third with the go-ahead run. Sauce stole second and scored on a
Nick McCann triple to right field.
UMC pulled within 3-2 when Barlas made the biggest defensive play of the game in the sixth inning. With one run already in and runners on first and second with two outs, Barlas made a diving stop behind second base, rolled over and tagged the bag for the final out to extinguish the Golden Eagles scoring opportunity.

After UMC and UMary combined for 11 hits in the opening game, the two teams nearly doubled that figure in the second game. The Golden Eagles posted 10 hits – including three home runs, and the Marauders had two home runs and 11 hits in UMC's 11-7 victory over UMary. The tone was set in the first inning when Reed Hjelle hit a 2-run home run for UMC and
Darius Barlas cracked a three-run blast for UMary.
PIVOT POINT
Holding a 3-2 lead,
Andrew Brooks ran into trouble in the third. The Marauders pitcher filled the bases with two outs but looked like he would escape the inning on a ground out. Instead a defensive miscue by UMary allowed UMC to score the tying run and extend the inning. Taking full advantage of the opportunity, Landyn Swenson hit a grand slam before Reed Hjelle followed with a solo home run to provide the Golden Eagles with an insurmountable 8-3 lead.
