ORLANDO, FL – The University of Mary tennis team made it five straight victories with their 5-2 win over Piedmont College. The Marauders swept doubles play and won four of six singles matches to guide them to victory.
With the win The Marauders improve to 10-2 on the season. Piedmont falls to 5-1 on the season.
The Marauders took all three doubles matches to earn themselves one point from doubles play. The team of Dembo and Hegy clinched #1 doubles 6-2.
Stoppler and Wolf won their match 7-6. The duo trailed 4-1 but stormed back to claim victory in the extremely competitive match.
Askvig and Lajom had the most dominant doubles win of the day, claiming a 6-0 victory.
Jaimie Stoppler claimed the first victory in singles play. The freshman dominated #4 singles winning 6-1, 6-0.
Yusra Hegy claimed the second victory in singles play 6-3, 6-1 in #2 singles.
Tasha Dembo clinched the match for the Marauders with her 6-3, 6-3 victory in #1 singles.
Kelsey Lajom has proven that she is no stranger to competitive matches taking #3 singles in a super tiebreaker. Lajom won the first set 7-5 and dropped the second 5-7. She clinched victory in the super tiebreaker.
Danielle Wolf lost 6-2, 6-1 in #5 singles.
Kali Askvig lost in a super tiebreaker in #6 singles 6-4, 5-7, 1-0.
The Marauders will be back in action tomorrow, March 10 against Missouri Western State at 10 AM.
