ORLANDO, FL – On the hottest, most humid day of the University of Mary tennis teams spring break trip they took on their toughest opponent. The Marauders didn't let to hot and humid conditions slow them down, taking down Missouri Western State University 4-3 in the most competitive match so far this season.
The Marauders extend their win streak to six straight matches and improves to 11-2 on the season with their victory over the Griffons.
UMary earned the point from doubles play by winning two of three matches.
Wolf and Stoppler took control of their match, winning 6-2. Lajom and Askvig clinched the point for the Marauders in a very competitive match, winning 7-5. The duo of Dembo and Hegy fell 6-1 in #1 doubles.
Jamie Stoppler dominated her match, claiming the first singles victory of the day for UMary, winning 6-1, 6-1.
Yusra Hegy won the second match of the day for UMary with her come from behind win. Hegy dropped the first set 4-6 and had to come from behind to win the second set 7-5. The match went to a super tiebreaker where Hegy won 10-7 to clinch the match. The sophomore earned every point in the match that featured many very long rallies.
With the match on the line, UMary looked to
Tasha Dembo to clinch victory for the Marauders and she was able to do just that. Dembo jumped out to an early lead, taking the first set 6-3 before falling in the second set 7-5. The match would head to a tiebreaker to see which team would claim victory. The Marauders sophomore took the win 10-5 in a super tiebreaker to give UMary the victory over the Griffons.
MWSU won the other three singles matches with
Kelsey Lajom falling 6-4, 6-3,
Danielle Wolf losing 6-2, 6-3, and
Kali Askvig getting beat 6-0, 6-2.

The Marauders will close out play in Florida on Tuesday, March 12 at 8 AM against Millersville University.
