ORLANDO, FL – The University of Mary made it an undefeated 5-0 in the Sunshine State with their dominant 7-0 victory over Millersville University. In the Marauders vs Marauders match up, UMary swept every match against Millersville on the day.
With the victory the University of Mary makes it seven straight wins and improves to 12-2 on the season.
Singles were played before doubles in this match.
Jamie Stoppler was the first Marauders athlete to claim victory in the match with her dominant 6-3, 6-0 victory in number four singles.
Kali Askvig kept things rolling for UMary with her well balanced attack, winning 6-3, 6-3.
Yusra Hegy claimed her match in a super tiebreaker. Hegy dominated the first set 6-1 before falling 7-5 in the second. The sophomore won the super tiebreaker 10-6 to claim victory.
Kelsey Lajom clinched the match for UMary with her 6-3, 7-6 victory.
Danielle Wolf won her very competitive match. After dropping the first set 2-6, Wolf stormed back to win the second set 6-4 and then the super tiebreaker 11-9.
In a marathon of a match in Number one singles,
Tasha Dembo came out victorious. In a match that lasted two hours and 45 minutes, Dembo fell in the first set 6-7 before winning the second 7-5 and then taking the super tiebreaker 18-16 to come out victorious.
The team of Stoppler and Wolf won their doubles match 6-3 while Lajom and Askvig claimed a 6-2 victory to give UMary the point for doubles. Number one doubles was not played due to time restrictions.
The Marauders will be back in action this weekend for the final home match of the season. UMary will battle MSU Moorhead on Saturday, March 16 at 12 PM at the Capital Racquet and Fitness Center.
