ST. CLOUD, MN – The University of Mary tennis team battled hard against the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs but could not take them down. In a match up of two top tier NSIC teams, the Bulldogs held the 4-3 advantage over the Marauders.
With the loss UMary falls to 12-4 on the season and 7-4 in NSIC play. UMD improves to 9-3 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
The Bulldogs claimed the doubles point by winning two out of the three doubles matches. The Marauders claimed their lone doubles win in #3 singles with the team of
Kelsey Lajom and
Kali Askvig claiming a 6-4 victory.
Tasha Dembo got the Marauders off the a great start in #1 singles, claiming a dominant 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Yusra Hegy kept the winning going with a 6-4, 6-2 win. The sophomore trailed 1-4 in the first set but stormed back rallying five straight unanswered points to close out the set.
Jamie Stoppler claimed UMary's third win in singles with a dominant 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The match was tied up at three point each with the deciding match being #6 singles. UMD claimed the win and the match with a 6-3, 6-1 victory.
The Marauders will look to bounce back tomorrow morning against St. Cloud State at 8:30 AM in St. Cloud, MN.
