FARGO, ND – The University of Mary team was back in action today against Upper Iowa. The Marauders dominated, sweeping the Peacocks 7-0. UMary won all five singles matches they played and won one of two doubles matches with UIU forfeiting #3 doubles to give UMary the point from doubles.
 
With the win, UMary improves to 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in the NSIC.
 
The Marauders started the day by locking up one point in doubles competition. The team of Danielle Wolf and Jamie Stoppler made short work of their opponents in #2 doubles winning 6-0. Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy fought hard in #1 doubles but fell in the close match 7-5. Due to a forfeit by UIU in #3 doubles the Marauders clinched the point.
 
The Marauders then took all five of the singles matches that were played.
 
Tasha Dembo got things going for the Marauders with a 6-4, 6-0 win in #1 singles. The sophomore fell behind 4-1 to start but then refused to allow her opponent to put up a point the remainder of the match to clinch victory.
 
Yusra Hegy needed three sets to clinch victory in #2 singles. Hegy fell behind after dropping the first set 4-6, she then took control over the next two sets and won them 6-4, 6-2 to bring home the win.
 
Kelsey Lajom battled in a long hard fought match, taking home the victory in three sets. Lajom took the first set 6-4 then dropped the second set 5-7 in a close battle. She put her foot on the gas and dominated the final set 6-1 to clinch the match.
 
Jamie Stoppler made short of her opponent in #4 singles winning 6-1, 6-0.
 
Danielle Wolf recorded the most dominant win of the day, winning 6-0, 6-0.
 
Kali Askvig earned the Marauders a point by winning #6 singles by forfeit.
 
UMary will face a tough challenge tomorrow, March 2 against Winona State. The Marauders will take on the Warriors at 11 am.
