BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary wrestling team earned their first win over Augustana during their NCAA era tonight with an exciting 18-17 win. For the third time in four duals the dual came down to the final bout of the night. The Marauders were on the winning end tonight. Each team won five matches on the day.
With the win the Marauders improve to 5-4 overall and 3-4 in the NSIC.
The dual started with the 184 lbs match.
Lance Jarrett lost by a 15-3 major decision to Daniel Bishop.
In the 197 lbs class
Ryan Stottler lost by a 10-4 decision to #9 Clayton Wahlstrom.
Gerardo Jaime (285) lost by a 3-0 decision to Matt Naig. The Marauders trailed 10-0 after the first three bouts.
Nate Humann (125) got things rolling for the Marauders with a win by 9-4 decision over Ethan Cota. Humann led 5-4 after the first period. The senior dominated the last two periods to seal the deal on the victory to put UMary on the board.
The 133 lbs class was an open division with
Jeremy Leintz of UMary claiming six points due to forfeit by Augustana. This brought the score to 10-9.

Tate Barnhardt bumped up to the 141 lbs class to wrestle. Barnhardt gave UMary their first lead of the night 12-10. The senior won by a 3-0 decision. He posted a big two point take down in the third period to clinch the victory.
Max Bruss (149) lost by a 6-2 decision to Tyler Wagener.
Devin Steidler (157) lost by a 10-2 major decision to bring the score to 17-12.
Austin Eichmann (165) won by a 6-1 decision. Eichmann recorded all six of his points in the first period with a two point takedown and a big four point near fall. This brought the score to 17-15 in favor of Augie which meant another dual would be decided by the final bout of the day.

Phillip Springsteen clinched the dual for the Marauders with a big 7-5 win by decision over #12 Lukas Poloncic. Springsteen jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Poloncic was able to work his way back to tie the bout up at five a piece but points by Springsteen as time expired clinched the match for Springsteen and the dual for the Marauders.
UMary will be back in action tomorrow, February 10 at 2 PM to take on Southwest Minnesota State. The dual will be the Marauders final home dual of the season. Come out to the MAC and support your UMary wrestling team!
