GRAND FORKS, ND – The University of Mary tennis team battled hard against Bemidji State with each match being very competitive. The Marauders started off hot by sweeping doubles play, taking a 1-0 lead into singles. The Beavers performed well in singles taking four matches to beat the Marauders 4-3.
 
With the loss, UMary falls to 6-2 on the season and 5-2 in the NSIC.
 
The Marauders started out great, sweeping doubles play. In #1 doubles the team of Tasha Dembo and Yusra Hegy dominated 6-1. Danielle Wolf and Jamie Stoppler kept the winning rolling with a 6-3 win in #2 doubles. Kelsey Lajom and Kali Askvig wrapped up the sweep with a 6-2 win in #3 singles.
 
Tasha Dembo kept the winning rolling into singles. The sophomore took the match 6-4, 6-2.
 
Jamie Stoppler took #4 singles. She dominated the first set 6-0. The second set was a hard fought battle with Stoppler taking the win in the end 7-5.
 
The Beavers won #2, #3, #5, and #6 singles. Ariadna Lopez beat Yusra Hegy in #2 singles to hand Hegy her first loss of her Marauders career.
 
UMary will back in action March 1-2 in Fargo, ND. The Marauders will take on Upper Iowa on Friday, March 1 at 6 PM. They will follow that up with a game against Winona State on Saturday, March 2 at 11 AM.
