BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary wrestling team knows how to defend the home mat. With a dominant 27-12 win over Southwest Minnesota State, the Marauders improve to 4-0 in home duals this season. UMary claimed seven out of ten duals on the day. The seven victories were claimed in a wide array of ways with wins coming by tie break, decision, major decision, technical fall, and fall.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 6-4 overall and 4-4 in the NSIC.
 
Senior Hunter Eckert (141) got things rolling for the Marauders right away. He kicked off the dual with a win by a 9-5 decision. Eckert tallied nine points in the first period and held on from there to give the Marauders three points to start off the dual.
 
Max Bruss (149) kept it going for the Marauders with a 9-4 decision over Justin Haneke. Bruss jumped out to a 4-2 lead in the first period. He then extended his lead in each of the next two periods to claim victory.
 
Devin Steidler (157) lost to #7 Cortez Arredondo by a 6-1 decision.
 
Austin Eichmann (165) lost by fall to Kegen Fingalsen.
 
#8 Phillip Springsteen (174) got the Marauders back on track with a win by 11-2 major decision. Five points in the second period sparked the redshirt sophomore to victory.
 
Lance Jarrett (184) electrified the crowd with a big pin at the 5:57 mark. His pin gave the Marauders six points and a 16-9 lead.
 
Ryan Stottler (197) lost by a 5-2 decision.
 
Gerardo Jaime (285) won by a 3-2 tie break. Three periods wasn't enough in this tightly contested match. Jaime escaped for one point in the second overtime to clinch the victory.
 
Nate Humann (125) recorded an astounding 30 points in his 30-15 win by technical fall. The redshirt senior recorded 14 two point takedowns on his way to victory. The only way his opponent seemingly scored was when Humann would let him escape just to record another takedown.
 
#3 Tate Barnhardt  (133) closed out the night for the Marauders with a win by 6-1 decision. The Bismarck, ND native finished regular season duals with an undefeated record this season.
 
UMary now sets their eyes on NCAA DII Super Regionals on February 23 in Moorhead, MN.
