Marauders Cruise Past Minot State In Rivalry Game Matchup

BISMARCK, ND – Efficiency was the name of the game for the University of Mary women's basketball team as they took down Minot State University. The Marauders used 52.7 percent shooting from the field and 46.2 percent from deep to roll past the Beavers by a score of 81-60. A trio of Marauders found themselves in double figures when the final buzzer rang with Lauren Rotunda leading the way with 19 points. Cassie Askvig added 16 while Lexie Schneider posted a 12 point, 11 rebound double-double. 11 different UMary athletes recorded buckets in the victory.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 11-4 on the season and 5-1 in the conference. Minot State falls to 3-7 overall and 0-6 in the Northern Sun.
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
A dominant first quarter was the difference in the first half. The Marauders claimed a 22-10 lead at the end of the first and eventually extended that lead by two to head into half up 42-28. It was a 13-3 run to close out the first quarter that helped blow the game open for UMary. The first half featured a balanced offensive attack with all 10 Marauders who saw action in the first half finding the bottom of the bucket. Macy Williams and Coral Gillette led the way with six points each. The Marauders were efficient in their scoring, knocking down 51.7 percent of their shots from the field and 50 percent from deep.
 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders built off of their dominant first half in the third quarter, building up to their largest lead of 32 points on the game. UMary outscored the Beavers 24-12 in the third quarter, including a 24-6 run in the third. The Beavers attempted to come back but UMary stood strong, maintaining a dominant lead, claiming a 21 point victory. Rotunda dominated the second half, putting up 14 points. Askvig added 11 of her own second half points of her own.
