BISMARCK, ND – Playing their final non-conference game of the season, the University of Mary overwhelmed the visiting University of Maine at Fort Kent Bengals 79-33.
Matthew Kreklow posted his third straight double double and all 12 Marauders who played in the game made their way into the scoring column.
Kreklow dominated the interior against the Bengals. The Marauders 6-9 center scored 16 points, hauled down 12 rebounds, made three blocks and had two steals. The junior finished the game 8-for-11 from the field in just over 20 minutes of play. It was his fourth double double of the year.
Wyatt Carr and
Glenn Jordan added ten points each for UMary. Carr was 2-for-3 behind the arc and had three assists. Jordan came off the bench and matched Carr's performance on treys, snared four rebounds and made two steals.
Evan Anderson also had two treys in the game, making both his attempts from behind the arc. Overall the Marauders finished 11-for-31 on 3-point attempts.
Shooting 46 percent overall for the game, the Marauders were 18-for-32 on shot attempts inside the arc. UMary also made all ten free throw attempts.
Defensively the Marauders limited the Bengals to an overall shooting percentage of 21.1 percent, including a 6-for-31 effort on treys. UMary also dominated the boards, finishing with a 48-33 advantage, helping the Marauders outscore the Bengals 30-12 in the paint. Additionally UMary's defensive pressure led to a 23-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
Jacob Powell led the Bengals with nine points after coming off the bench to hit a trio of treys. Brandon Ruaro hit two treys and scored six points.
Using a 20-0 run early in the opening half, the Marauders built a 25-5 lead and never looked back, entering intermission with a 45-14 lead.
The win snaps the Marauders four-game losing streak and UMary improves to 6-5 on the season. The Marauders four-game home stand continues when UMary next hosts instate rival Minot State University on Saturday, Dec. 21. Game time is 5:30 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
