BISMARCK, ND – University of Mary sophomore
Bryan Lumsden ran for 82 yards and scored the only rushing touchdown in a game that featured eight scoring passes by the University of Minnesota Duluth, propelling the visiting Bulldogs to a 59-7 win over the Marauders.
Lumsden burst 44 yards for the score early in the fourth quarter for the Marauders lone score of the game as UMary faced one of the nation's top defense. He carried the ball 13 times and averaged 6.3 yards per carry. His scoring strike was Lumsden's longest run of the season and capped a 9-play 75-yard drive.
Back in the lineup after missing four games, Bulldogs quarterback John Larson threw five touchdown passes and caught one, all in the first half. He threw for 225 yards and directed seven scoring drives in eight possessions as UMD built a 45-0 lead at intermission.
One of the Northern Sun's leading tacklers,
Richard Bendish cracked double digits for the second straight game and the third time this season. The junior safety had 11 stops, including a shared tackle for loss.
Cyrano Rayfield had 1.5 tackles for loss and seven total tackles.
Paul Guptill and
Casey Uhler both had sacks for the Marauders with Uhler posting 2.0 tackles behind the line.
Dre Jackson had a team-best three pass breakups.
Luke Little and
Danny Kittner both had five catches for the Marauders with Little rolling up 55 yards and Kittner 46.
Bailey Meyer had a strong day for the Marauders, averaging 42.6 yards/punt with a long of 52 and downing one inside the Bulldogs 20 yard line.
Cazz Martin led the Bulldogs with 109 yards rushing. Wade Sullivan had three catches for 62 yards and a touchdown, one of eight different UMD payers to catch a scoring pass.
The Marauders close out the 2019 season next Saturday, Nov. 16, when UMary hosts the University of Minnesota Crookston for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 2 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
