MINOT, ND – The University of Mary and Minot State wrestling dual was a highly competitive affair with both teams winning five bouts on the night. The Beavers were able to hold the advantage in points and take down the Marauders 19-16.
 
The dual between the two in-state rivals tonight was a non-conference battle with the two teams meeting later this season for the conference face off and a chance to bring home the barrel in the battle for the barrel.
 
The Beavers jumped out to a 6-0 lead, winning the first two matches by decision. Trevor Fauver (141) got the Marauders on the board with a win by a 6-2 decision.
 
After the dropping the 149 match, the Marauders were able to string together back to back wins to even the dual at 10 apiece.
 
Braydon Huber earned the win at 157 with a 6-4 decision. A very strong second period propelled him to victory, recording five of his six points in the period.
 
Dante Springsteen made it two straight Marauders wins with a 16-7 major decision. Four two point take downs in the third period allowed Springsteen to extend his lead and earn UMary four points.
 
Minot State claimed 174 by fall and 184 by decision to take a 19-10 lead heading into the final two matches of the night.
 
UMary would claim both of those matches by decision to conclude the dual at 19-16.
 
Gerardo Jaime, making his season debut at 197, won by a 4-0 decision. Jaime posted a two-point takedown in the first and third period to take the win.
 
Dominic Tudor ended the night with a win for the Marauders. Trailing 3-2 in the third period, Tudor posted a two-point takedown to take a 4-3 lead which held until the end of the bout.
 
The Marauders return home for their conference opener on Saturday, December 7 against #11 Upper Iowa. The dual will take place at 2 PM in the McDowell Activity Center.
