Tremendous Defensive Effort Allows Marauders To Cruise Past Yellowstone Christian

BISMARCK, ND – A near record breaking defensive effort by the University of Mary women's basketball team and a well-rounded scoring effort led the Marauders to a dominant 87-23 victory over Yellowstone Christian College. The 23 points that the Marauders gave up was just three more than the school's all-time record for least amount of points allowed. UMary held YCC to just one point in the first quarter, three in the third quarter, and five in the fourth quarter, only allowing the Centurions to make a combined two field goals between those three quarters and seven on the game. It wasn't just the defense that dominated, UMary had all 12 Marauders who played score. Cassie Askvig led the way with 14 points and eight rebounds in her 16 minutes of play. Gillette pitched in ten points.
 
With the win the Marauders improve to 6-3 on the season.
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Marauders held YCC to just one point in the first quarter. The Centurions scored the first point of the game but then UMary rallied together a 32-0 run to take a 32-1 lead three minutes into the second quarter. Yellowstone caught fire in the second quarter, knocking down four three pointers and putting up 14 points to head into the half down 41-15. Askvig put up 11 points and seven boards in the first half and Macy Williams and Coral Gillette each posted eight.

 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
UMary's defense remained dominant in the second half, only allowing the Centurions to make two shots from the field, holding them to a total of eight second half points, outscoring them 46-8 in the half. A nine point second half by Megan Voit and a nine point fourth quarter by Kassandra Bartek highlighted second half scoring for UMary.
