Big Blocks By Berge, Hanson Headline Marauders In Competitive Loss To SCSU

BISMARCK, ND – The University of Mary Volleyball team proved they could hang with the big dogs against nationally ranked St. Cloud State. The Marauders gave #12 SCSU a run in the first set. Energized by a noisy crowd, decked out in pink for cancer awareness, the Marauders claimed the second set. UMary ended up falling in four sets to the Huskies. Blocks were the name of the game for the Marauders, recording an outstanding 10 on the game. This was six more than SCSU was able to muster up.

With the loss UMary falls to 1-14 on the season and 0-5 in the NSIC. #12 SCSU improves to 13-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.

PIVOT POINT

The Marauders put up a big second set, hitting at a .227 clip, claiming the set in dramatic fashion to even the match at one a piece. #12 SCSU came out in the third set with something to prove, showing why they are ranked #12 in the nation. The Huskies posted a .452 hitting percentage in the third set to take a 25-13 set win. With momentum on their side they were able to claim the fourth and final set to claim victory.

Sydney Murphy recorded 25 assists, 11 digs, six kills, two blocks, and a .300 hitting percentage

Morgan Schnabel posted nine kills, 12 digs, two blocks, and an ace

Caitlin Schneeweis had eight kills and three digs

Katja Berge posted five blocks, seven kills, and .300 hitting percentage

Hannah Hanson recorded four blocks and two kills

Julianna Hughes posted three blocks

Natalia Cruz had 19 digs

 

STAT OF THE GAME

The Marauders were an absolute FORCE at the net during the game! UMary recorded a tremendous 10 blocks on the game, the most they have posted this season. Katja Berge led the way with five blocks, right behind her was Hannah Hanson with four. Seven Marauders were involved in blocks on the day.

Sydney Murphy had herself a game, recording an incredible stat line of 25 assists, 11 digs, six kills, two blocks, and a .300 hitting percentage. This was Murphy's 11th double-double of the season.

UP NEXT

The Marauders travel to Minnesota next week for a pair of games. The first match of the weekend will come on Friday, October 11 at 6 PM against Minnesota Crookston. They will follow that up with a match on Saturday, October 12 at 1 PM against Bemidji State.
