Thunderous Kills By Schnabel and Booming Blocks by Hughes Can’t Spark Marauders In Loss To UMC

CROOKSTON, MN - The University of Mary volleyball came out on fire against the University of Minnesota Crookston, dominating the stat line during the game. Despite the Marauders holding the advantage in kills, assists, digs, blocks, and aces, timely scoring by the Golden Eagles allowed them to take down the Marauders in four sets. Several UMary athletes had massive games with Morgan Schnabel leading the way with a big double-double of 17 kills and 13 digs. Julianna Hughes was a force at the net, recording an astounding six blocks on the game.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 1-15 on the season and 0-7 in the NSIC

 

PIVOT POINT

The Marauders wasted no time jumping out to an early lead and taking the first set by a dominant score of 25-13. In the second set the Golden Eagles jumped out to a 9-3 lead but UMary was able to fight back to bring to set to a score of 12-10 but a 5-0 run by UMC put them up seven and put the set out of reach for the Marauders. Set three was anyone's set with the Marauders storming back after falling into an early deficit. Once they got themselves back into the match, neither team was able to take a controlling lead until Minnesota Crookston took the set 25-21. With momentum on their side, the Golden Eagles were able to win their third straight set and take the win in four sets over the Marauders.

Morgan Schnabel posted a game high 17 kills and 13 digs

Sydney Murphy recorded a game high of 35 assists, nine digs, four kills, and three blocks

Julianna Hughes had a game high of six blocks and seven kills

Caitlin Schneeweis had nine kills

Katja Berge recorded six kills and three blocks

Natalia Cruz posted a game high of 24 digs and three aces

Breanna Donarski recorded three aces

Anna Nietfeld posted 14 digs and three assists.

 

STAT OF THE GAME

The Marauders were dominant on the stat line with athletes posting game highs in kills, blocks, assists, and digs. UMary as a team controlled the statistical comparison between the two teams. The Marauders recorded more kills 49-42, more aces 7-5, more blocks 8-4, more assists 42-41, and more digs 78-77.
