Huge Blocks By Hanson, Hughes Energize Crowd In Loss To Minot State

BISMARCK, ND – A roaring Halloween themed crowd and thunderous blocks by Julianna Hughes and Hannah Hanson had the MAC rocking as the University of Mary volleyball team battled in-state rivals Minot State. Hanson and Hughes fed off the energy of the crowd, each recording three blocks on the match. Despite the big blocks and the energized crowd, UMary would fall to the Beavers in three sets.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 1-22 on the season and 0-14 in NSIC play. The Beavers improve to 2-21 and 1-13 in conference play.

PIVOT POINT
The Beavers led 5-3 early in the first set but then strung together a 7-0 run followed closely by another 6-0 run to put Minot State up 20-6. They finished out the set claiming a 25-14 win. Determined to not have a repeat of the first set, UMary jumped out to a 4-0 lead and eventually held a 19-18 lead late in the second set. Four straight points by the Beavers changed the momentum of the set and allowed Minot State to go on and take the second set. The Marauders jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third but the Beavers put their foot on the gas, going on a 24-7 run to close out the set and claim the match.
