14-game Marauders win streak snapped by Florida Gulf Coast

FORT MYERS, FL – Facing the defending national champions on their home ice, visiting University of Mary dropped a 4-1 decision at Florida Gulf Coast. The loss is the first of the season for the Marauders after opening the year with 14 straight wins, including a victory over the Eagles.
 
The Marauders are now 14-1 on the season. The Eagles, who won the last two ACHA Division II national championships, is 5-1. The two teams are now 1-1 against each other this season as UMary knocked off FGCU 3-1 on Oct. 5 at the Marauders Icebreaker tournament. The two programs are now 2-2 lifetime against one another.
 
The Eagles opened the scoring on a Brandon Beard goal at 11:35 of the first period. Zach Garrett evened the score on an unassisted goal at 17:17.
 
Florida Gulf Coast then tallied the next three goals. After scoring halfway through the second to take a 2-1 lead, the Eagles found the net twice in the third period, the first just 2:17 into the final stanza.
 
The shot chart was fairly even. UMary took 33 shots with FGCU posting 34.
 
Lance Knudson suffered his first loss at UMary. He stopped 30 shots in the game but registered his first defeat after winning 27 games with one tie over the last two years.
 
The Marauders and the Eagles close out their two-game series on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 8:30 pm Eastern / 7:30 pm Central.
