Senior Day, Parents Weekend on tap as Marauders set to host Mustangs, Cougars

THIS WEEK
The University of Mary women's soccer final full home weekend of action is headlined by Senior Night and Parents Weekend. The Marauders honor seven student-athletes on Senior Night when UMary hosts Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday, Oct. 18, at 7 p.m. Parents Weekend concludes on Sunday, Oct. 20, when the Marauders host the University of Sioux Falls at 1 pm. Both games are set for the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
 
SENIOR DAY AND PARENTS WEEKEND
The Marauders honor their seven seniors -  Kylee Welch, Tiffany Ohlhauser, Sidney Burrell, Malia Brudvik, Taylor Pettigrew, Kaelie Schumacher and Patricia Martin – on Friday prior to the Mustangs game. This is also Parents Weekend for the UMary women's soccer team.
 
RECORDS
The Marauders enter the weekend with a mark of 5-2-2 overall and 3-2-2 for 11 points and 7th place in the NSIC standings… SMSU is 6-4 overall and 4-4 for 12 points and 6th place in the NSIC standings… USF is 2-8-1 overall and 2-5-1 for seven points and 11th place in the NSIC.
 
FAST START
The Marauders are 5-2-2 to tie UMary's NCAA era mark for fewest losses through nine games. The 2017 Marauders squad posted an identical at the same mile marker. The 2017 side finished 12-5-1 overall and advanced to the NSIC playoff semifinals.
 
REWIND
On a road trip kicked off be the postponement of the opening game three days due to a fall snowstorm, the Marauders suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 double overtime loss when NSIC-leading Bemidji State scored a golden goal in the 106th minute… UMary rebounded with a 7-0 Monday morning rout of the University of  Minnesota Crookston. In a game moved to east Grand Forks, MN, due to field conditions on the UMC pitch, the Marauders set a school mark for goals in an NCAA game. Three different players scored a pair of goals in the game for UMary.
 
G-OOOOOOO-AL
The Marauders exploded for seven goals in a 7-0 win against the Golden Eagles on Monday to set a team record for counters in an NCAA game. Additionally three Marauders – Noelle Vigneri, Maureen Sullivan and Emma Davies – each scored two goals and had an assist in the game. This is the first time UMary had thee players score two or more goals each in an NCAA game. The previous best was two when Amy Tanaka and Megan Wilson both tallied twice against MSU Moorhead on Oct. 12, 2008… The Marauders peppered the UMC net with 32 shots, a total exceeded by the school in an NCAA contest just once when UMary fired 43 shots at Sioux Falls in 2007. UMary finished with 26 shots on frame against UMC. The Golden Eagles had 10 total shots with just one on net.

Not to be overlooked in the offensive onslaught, the Marauders posted two goals in just 15 seconds to open the scoring. Patricia Martin scored the game-winning goal at 15:31 and Noelle Vigneri doubled the Marauders lead at 15:46.  
 
DEEE-FENCE
The Marauders defense has been stellar through the first nine games of the season. UMary ranks sixth in the nation in goals against average (0.31) and third in save percentage (.93). The team has allowed just three goals – no more than one in any game - and posted six shutouts. The opposition has been limited to only 10.4 shots/game) with 5.0 shots in frame/game).
 
LEADERS OF THE PACK
The Marauders lead the Northern Sun with a team goals against average of a nearly-microscopic .31.
 
NCAA RANKINGS
With an dominant lock down defense, the Marauders rank 6th in the country in Goals Allowed Average at .31… the Marauders shutout percentage of .667 is 11th … UMary's save percentage of 0.933 is third… Madisyn Waltman is 3rd in NCAA Division II in goals against average (0.312) and second in save percentage (0.932).
 
BLANKETY BLANK
The Marauders have six shutouts in nine matches this season.

With the 7-0 win over Minnesota Crookston, Madisyn Waltman continues to creep towards the top of the UMary all-time goalkeeper shutouts leaderboard. It was the 14th career clean sheet posted by the sophomore. The record is 25 by Kristin Werner, followed by Rachael Dietrich (22), Brannigan Coyle (20), Carly Feiler (17) and Waltman (14).

NOTABLE
The 4th ranked Minnesota State Mavericks are the highest-ranked NCAA team that the Marauders have defeated in the regular season.
 
PENINSULA POWER
The Marauders have two transfers from Peninsula College in Post Angeles, WA, and the pair combined for the Marauders final goal against Wayne State. Samantha Guzman, a junior defender in her first season at UMary scored the goal with an assist going to Malia Brudvik, a senior defender who had previously played with Guzman at Peninsula.
 
TEAMWORK
Eight different Marauders have combined to score the team's 15 goals this season. Hannah Richter leads the way with four counters to double her career-high from last season. Noelle Vigneri has three goals while Maureen Sullivan and Emma Davies have two each. Sidney Burrell, Samantha Guzman, Tiffany Ohlhauser and Patricia Martin have scored one goal each.
 
DEBUTS
Several Marauders made their debut this season. Freshmen Rachel Neff, Noelle Vigneri, Brooke Boyer, Yasmina Dokaram, Maureen Sullivan, Samantha Rosenkranz, Marriann Sentfer and junior Samantha Guzman, a transfer from Peninsula College, have all seen action in their first seasons at UMary.
 
SENIOR SALUTE
The Marauders have seven seniors who will all play key roles this season. All-NSIC midfielder/defender Kylee Welch and defender/forward Tiffany Ohlhauser are in their fourth season in the starting lineup and forward Sidney Burrell and Malia Brudvik are starting for a second straight season. Midfielder Taylor Pettigrew has moved into the starting 11. Kaelie Schumacher and Patricia Martin continue to play key roles in reserve.
 
SEMIS SWEET
The University of Mary has advanced to the Northern Sun tournament's semifinals for the last two years, a feat accomplished by the Marauders, Minnesota State and Augustana in the 16-team league.
 
MARAUDERS-WOLVES GAME RESCHEDULED FOR NOV. 6
The University of Mary match against Northern State University postponed due to lightning is rescheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6. Game time is 4 pm at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
 
25th SEASON OF MARAUDERS SOCCER
The first University of Mary soccer teams took to the pitch for the first time in 1995 and this season we are celebrating 25 seasons of Marauders men's and women's soccer.
 
UPCOMING
The Marauders take their final two-game weekend road trip when UMary plays at Winona State University on Oct. 25 and Upper Iowa University on Oct. 27.
