MANDAN, ND – Scoring just 14 seconds into the game,
Kyler Moore set the tone for the University of Mary in a 5-0 Marauders homecoming win over Montana State University. Five different players tallied goals for UMary as the Marauders won their 13
th straight game to remain undefeated on the season.
Firing down the slot and catching the Bobcats back on their skates, Moore took a feed from
Matt Winkle and tapped home a goal for a quick 1-0 Marauders advantage.
The Marauders didn't find their next goal until the final minute of the first period. With 58.3 seconds left before intermission,
Marshall Tschida doubled the Marauders advantage to 2-0.
Matching their production from the opening stanza, the Marauders tallied twice in the second period to grab a 4-0 lead.
Alex Flicek posted the Marauders third goal of the game at 11:57. UMary then took advantage of a Bobcats penalty for too many men on the ice. Just 17 seconds into the man advantage,
Dalton Johnson gathered the puck by the Marauders net and skated down the left boards, leaving MSU defenders in his wake and skating in alone on Bobcats goaltender Brock Vosburgh before burying the puck at 3:07 for a 4-0 Marauders lead at the second intermission.
Seth Cushing closed the scoring with his 10
th goal of the season at 10:03 of the final period.
Winkle finished the day with a pair of assists, the only UMary player earning multiple points in the game.
Phillip Silveria,
David Ruiz,
Lance Knudson,
Mathew Janke and
Johnny Witzke also had assists in the game for the Marauders.
Knudson earned his second straight shutout victory, finishing the game with 18 saves to go with his assist on the Johnson goal. Vosburgh had 43 saves for Montana State.
The Marauders, 13-0 on the season, improved to 37-0-1 all-time against ACHA Division II West Region opponents. The Bobcats are 0-1, playing their first game of the season.
UMary and Montana State wrap up the two-game series at 2 pm on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Schwan Cadillac Rink at the Starion Sports Complex.
