UMary Women's Basketball Takes On UMD and SCSU This Weekend To Begin Four Game Road Trip

THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary women's basketball team hits the road and heads to Minnesota for a weekend of basketball against Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud State. The Marauders will take on UMD on Friday, January 11 at 5:30 PM. They will follow that up with a game on Saturday, January 12 at 3:30 PM against St. Cloud State.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time UMary took to the court was for two big home wins over Concordia, St. Paul and Minnesota State - Mankato. The Marauders took down CSP by a score of 74-62. Gabbie Bohl posted a game high of 20 points while Cassie Askvig added a massive double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds. Coral Gillette pitched in 13 points. UMary followed that game up with a dominant 85-71 win over MSU. Cassie Askvig put up another massive double-double with 19 points and 14 rebounds. Macy Williams and Tonya Dvorak each added 15 points. Gabbie Bohl added a 10 points and 10 rebounds performance.
 
THE RECORD
The Marauders are 9-2 overall and 7-1 in NSIC play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA DULUTH
The Bulldogs come into the game against UMary with a 7-4 overall record and a 6-2 conference record. UMD does a great job protecting the home court going 3-1. Sammy Kozlowski and Sarah Grow each average just above 10 PPG to lead UMD in scoring.
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 11-8 against the Bulldogs during UMary's NCAA era… UMary holds a 7-2 edge in home games at the McDowell Activity Center… On the road at Romano Gym, the Marauders are 3-6 against the Bulldogs… UMary is 9-3 in the last twelve games against UMD… The Marauders swept the Bulldogs in 2015-16 and split the UMD series in 2016-17 and 2017-18 with both teams protecting their home court.
 
LAST MEETING
The last time the Marauders met the Bulldogs was earlier this season when UMary downed UMD by a score of 82-76. Gabbie Bohl tied a career high in the game with 30 points. Cassie Askvig posted a 22 point and 13 rebound performance to help lead the Marauders to victory.
 
 
OPPO RESEARCH – ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY
The Huskies come into the game against UMary on a two game winning streak and with an 8-4 record. SCSU is 5-3 in NSIC play. St. Cloud is a difficult place for opponents to play with the Huskies going 4-1 on their home court. Three Huskies average double figures, Madelin Dammann leads the way with 12.4 PPG. Torie Wortz (11.8) and Mallie Doucette (11.5) both average double digit points as well.  
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 9-11 against the Huskies during UMary's NCAA era… The Marauders are 5-5 at home against the Huskies… UMary is 4-5 on the road and 0-1 at neutral site games against SCSU… The longest win streak for either team is three.
  
LAST MEETING 
The last time the Huskies and Marauders met was earlier this season when Gabbie Bohl put up a massive double-double of 27 points and 19 rebounds. She added three blocks on the day as well. Behind the dominant performance of Bohl UMary took down SCSU by a score of 59-47. Cassie Askvig added a 10 point and nine rebound performance.

In this weeks D2SIDA Central Region Poll the Marauders rank 8th. UMary sits second in the NSIC North, just a game behind MSU Moorhead.  
 
GETTING BUCKETS
UMary is third in the Northern Sun in points per game averaging 74.9. The Marauders have a plus 11.5 scoring margin over the opponents which ranks third in the Northern Sun. Gabbie Bohl is first in the conference in scoring, averaging 18.8 PPG. Right behind her in fourth in the NSIC is Cassie Askvig who averages 17.6 PPG. The Marauders rank first in the conference in field goal percentage (45.6). Two Marauders rank in the top ten in individual field goal percentage. Askvig ranks fifth with a field goal percentage of 50.8 percent. Bohl sits right behind her in sixth with a field goal percentage of 50.0 percent. The Marauders ranks 23rd in the nation if field goal percentage offense! Bohl ranks 36th in the nation individually in scoring.
 
A HELPING PASS
The Marauders sure know how to share the ball. The team ranks fourth in the conference in assists, averaging 16.0 assists per game. Tonya Dvorak and Macy Williams are tied for 16th in the conference averaging 2.7 assists per game.
 
DEEEE-FENSE
The Marauders allow just 63.5 points/game, ninth in the NSIC. Teams are making just 35.6 percent of their shots against UMary, ranking them third in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
REJECTION
The Marauders are sixth in the NSIC in blocked shots at 3.64/game. Gabbie Bohl ranks ninth in the NSIC averaging 1.3 blocks per game. Tonya Dvorak ranks 14th and Cassie Askvig ranks 20th in the conference.
 
DOWNTOWN
Averaging 7.9 treys/game, the Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC. Shooting 37.8 percent from behind the arc, UMary is first in the conference in three point shooting percentage. Coral Gillette is first in the conference averaging 2.5 three pointers per game.
 
CHARITY STRIPE
Shooting 72.7 percent from the free throw line as a team this season the Marauders rank sixth in the NSIC. Cassie Askvig ranks fifth in the conference shooting 82.0 percent from the line. Gabbie Bohl is shooting 67.1 percent from the line to rank her 15th in the conference.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
The Marauders rank second in the NSIC in defensive rebounds averaging 29.8 RPG. The Marauders rank fourth in rebounding margin with a plus 5.1 RPG average. Two Marauders rank in the top five in the conference in rebounds per game. Askvig ranks fourth, averaging 9.8 RPG. Right behind her in fifth in Bohl who averaged 9.5 RPG.
 
 
YOUNG BUT EXPERIENCED
The UMary women's basketball team features no seniors. What the Marauders lack in seniors they make up for in experience. Several of the current players have been making a big impact for the Marauders since they were freshman, including Gabbie Bohl who was named NSIC freshman of the year her freshman year, first team All-NSIC her sophomore year, and is the NSIC north preseason player of the year this season. 
 
LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Big expectations surround Gabbie Bohl coming into this season. The junior was named the NSIC North Preseason Player of the Year and has shown exactly why she received that honor so far this season. Bohl is averaging 18.8 PPG, 9.5 RPG, and 1.3 BPG. She was named the NSIC player of the week for her performance the weekend of December 7-8. She was named to the WWU Lynda Goodrich Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance in the teams two games in Washington. Bohl recorded her 1,000 career point in her first game of her senior year when she got a bucket and drew the foul. She would convert on the three point play to give herself 1,000 career points.
 
CLIMBING THE ALL TIME RANKINGS
Gabbie Bohl became the 18th Marauders to score her 1,000 career point. She reached the milestone just one game into her junior year. She has since moved into 13th on the all time rankings with a total of 1,185 career points. She recently passed Renae Amundson (1986-1990) who scored 1,180 points during her career. Bohl will be tracking down Thai Goecke (1996-2000) next, Goecke has 1,195 career points. The junior forward has moved into 16th all time in career rebounds with 493. Cassie Askvig joins Bohl in the top 20 all time in career rebounds ranking 19th with 490. Askvig also moves into 29th all time in points scored with 841.
 
NEARING MILESTONES
Head Coach Rick Neumann is nearing the 100 win milestone. He is currently sitting at 98 wins. The UMary women's basketball program is nearing 700 wins. The Marauders need just 10 more wins to reach this mark. 
 
SOUND ALL-AROUND
Cassie Askvig has been incredibly well rounded and consistent in nearly every aspect of the game for UMary. The junior is averaging 17.6 PPG, 9.8 RPG and 2.3 APG. Askvig is shooting 51.2 percent from behind the arc and 50.8 percent from the field.
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabbie Bohl and Cassie Askvig both have won NSIC Player of the Week this season. Bohl won the award for her 28.5 PPG and 13.5 RPG performance over a two game stretch. Askvig was given the award for her 18.5 PPG and 15.5 RPG performance over the past weekend.
