MANKATO, MN – The University of Mary wrestling team had a dual decided by the final bout of the day for the second straight week. The Marauders had their eyes set on an upset win over #9 Minnesota State but their bid fell just a bit short, losing 22-18 to the Mavericks. UMary gave the Mavericks their most competitive NSIC dual of the season with the dual being determined by the final match of the day.
With the loss, UMary falls to 4-3 on the season and 2-3 in the NSIC. Minnesota State improves to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in the Northern Sun.
Ryan Stottler (197) got things rolling for the Marauders in the first match of the day. Riding the momentum of his big win over Minot State, Stottler kept things going against MSU with a win by pin at the 4:29 mark. The pin gave UMary a 6-0 lead to start things off.
Gerardo Jaime (285) kept things moving for the Marauders with a win by 6-0 decision. The sophomore posted a big 4 point near fall to help propel himself to victory. UMary jumped out to a 9-0 lead.
Nate Humann (125) lost to Andrew McFall by a 9-5 decision to bring to dual to 9-3.

Tate Barnhardt (133) posted four two point take downs in his bout against #1 George Farmah. Barnhardt recorded the upset victory by a 9-2 decision to remain undefeated in the NSIC. The Marauders extended their lead to 12-3 which was the largest lead UMary held all night.
Noah Huff (141) lost by an 18-3 technical fall to Louie Sanders.
Max Bruss (149) brought things down to the wire against #7 Kyle Rathman. Bruss came back from a 4-1 deficit in the third to send things into overtime. Rathman recorded a two point takedown to claim victory by a 6-4 decision. UMary's lead was at 12-11 after this match.
Isaac Berger lost by a 15-6 major decision to Daniel Close to give the Mavericks their first lead of the dual 15-12.
Austin Eichmann (165) lost to Logan Saltou by a 6-0 decision to extend MSU's lead to 18-12.

Phillip Springsteen brought the Marauders right back into contention for the dual with a pin at the 3:42 mark to give UMary a much needed six points and tie things up at 18 points each. Springsteen trailed 6-2 headed into the second period before he reversed the tides and pinned #4 Zach Johnston.
For the second dual in a row, things were decided by the final match of the night. With things tied up at 18,
Lance Jarrett took on Trevor Turriff to determine the winner of the dual. Turriff beat Jarrett by a 15-3 major decision to give the Mavericks a 22-18 win over the Marauders.
The Marauders will look to bounce back tomorrow, February 1 at 7 PM against #19 Upper Iowa in Fayette, IA.
