Golden Bears And Mavericks On The Docket For UMary Women's Basketball This Weekend

THIS WEEKEND
The University of Mary women's basketball returns home for their first games of 2019 this weekend. The Marauders kick things off against Concordia, St. Paul on Friday, January 4 at 5:30 PM. The team will follow that up with a game on Saturday, January 5 at 3:30 PM. Both games will take place in the McDowell Activity Center. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
The last time the Marauders took the court was against in-state rivals Minot State to close out 2018. UMary took down the home Beavers 67-58. Cassie Askvig had a big game with a 21 point, 12 rebound double-double. She added 2 assists, 2 steals, and a block to her stat line as well. Macy Williams added 15 points. Gabbie Bohl put up 11 points and seven rebounds.
 
THE RECORD
The Marauders are 7-2 overall and 5-1 in NSIC play.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – CONCORDIA, ST. PAUL
Concordia St. Paul comes into the game against UMary with a four game winning streak and an 8-3 record. The Golden Bears boast an impressive 6-0 home record, going 1-2 on the road and 1-1 at neutral sites. The Bears are 4-2 in conference play. Lindsay Dorr averages nearly a double-double for the Golden Bears with 18.5 PPG and 9.8 RPG. Anna Schmitt adds 15.4 PPG.
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 6-12 all-time against the Golden Bears… Since joining the NSIC the Marauders are 5-12 against the Golden Bears with a 4-4 record at home, a 1-7 mark on the road and 0-1 in neutral site games… UMary's only road win at the Ganglehoff Center was a 66-65 victory on Jan. 24, 2009... UMary's last win was when the two teams battled last season 74-66.
 
LAST MEETING 
The last time the Marauders took on the Golden Bears was during the 2017 season when UMary took down CSP 74-66 to end a 5 game losing streak to the Bears. Gabbie Bohl led the way for UMary with 17 points and 9 boards. Jordyn Jossart pitched in 11 points.
 
OPPO RESEARCH – MINNESOTA STATE - MANKATO
The Mavericks come into the game against the Marauders with a 5-5 record. Minnesota State Mankato has struggled on the road going 1-4 but excel at home with a 4-1 record. Two Mavericks average double figures for points. Taylor Drost averages 11.0 PPG and Rachel Shumski pitches in 10.3 PPG.
 
HISTORY LESSON
The Marauders are 3-10 all-time against the Mavericks… UMary holds a two game winning streak against the Mavericks… The Marauders are 3-3 at home and 0-7 on the road against the Mavericks.
 
 
LAST MEETING 
The last time the Marauders took on the Mavericks was during the 2017 season where UMary downed Minnesota State - Mankato 90-84 in overtime. Five Marauders posted double digit points during the game. Cassie Askvig led the way with 23 points and 10 boards. Gabbie Bohl added 20 points and 7 rebounds. Lauren Rotunda added 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and Macy Williams pitched in 11 points.

GETTING BUCKETS
UMary is third in the Northern Sun in points per game averaging 73.9. The Marauders have a plus 11.1 scoring margin over the opponents which ranks third in the Northern Sun. Gabbie Bohl is first in the conference in scoring, averaging 19.7 PPG. Right behind her in fourth in the NSIC is Cassie Askvig who averages 17.3 PPG. The Marauders rank first in the conference in field goal percentage (46.3). Two Marauders rank in the top ten in individual field goal percentage. Bohl ranks tied for eighth with a field goal percentage of 52.5 percent. Askvig sits right behind her in tenth with a field goal percentage of 51.4 percent. The Marauders ranks 20th in the nation if field goal percentage offense! Bohl ranks 32nd in the nation individually in scoring.
 
A HELPING PASS
The Marauders sure know how to share the ball. The team ranks fifth in the conference is assists, averaging 15.89 assists per game. Tonya Dvorak ranks tied for 14th in the conference averaging 2.7 assists per game.
 
DEEEE-FENSE
The Marauders allow just 62.8 points/game, ninth in the NSIC. Teams are making just 36.2 percent of their shots against UMary, ranking them fourth in the conference in field goal percentage defense.
 
REJECTION
The Marauders are sixth in the NSIC in blocked shots at 3.44/game. Tonya Dvorak ranks tied for ninth in the conference averaging 1.2 blocks per game. Gabbie Bohl averages 1.0 blocks/game to tie her for 10th. 
 
DOWNTOWN
Averaging 7.7 treys/game, the Marauders rank fourth in the NSIC. Shooting 37.7 percent from behind the arc, UMary is first in the conference in three point shooting percentage. Coral Gillette is second in the conference averaging 2.4 three pointers per game. Cassie Askvig ranks second in the conference and 10t in the nation in three point shooting percentage, making 48.6 percent of her three point attempts.
 
CHARITY STRIPE
Shooting 73.0 percent from the free throw line as a team this season the Marauders rank fifth in the NSIC. Cassie Askvig ranks eighth in the conference shooting 82.9 percent from the line. Gabbie Bohl is shooting 68.1 percent from the line to rank her 17th in the conference.
 
CRASHING THE GLASS
The Marauders rank third in the NSIC in defensive rebounds averaging 28.8 RPG. The Marauders rank fourth in rebounding margin with a plus 5.3 RPG average. Two Marauders rank in the top ten in the conference in rebounds per game. Bohl is tied for second in the NSIC with 9.8 RPG. Askvig ranks eighth with 8.2 RPG.
 
 
YOUNG BUT EXPERIENCED
The UMary women's basketball team features no seniors. What the Marauders lack in seniors they make up for in experience. Several of the current players have been making a big impact for the Marauders since they were freshman, including Gabbie Bohl who was named NSIC freshman of the year her freshman year, first team All-NSIC her sophomore year, and is the NSIC north preseason player of the year this season. 
 
LIVING UP TO EXPECTATIONS
Big expectations surround Gabbie Bohl coming into this season. The junior was named the NSIC North Preseason Player of the Year and has shown exactly why she received that honor so far this season. Bohl is averaging 19.7 PPG, 9.8 RPG, and 1.0 BPG. She was named the NSIC player of the week for her performance the weekend of December 7-8. She was named to the WWU Lynda Goodrich Classic All-Tournament Team for her performance in the teams two games in Washington. Bohl recorded her 1,000 career point in her first game of her senior year when she got a bucket and drew the foul. She would convert on the three point play to give herself 1,000 career points.
 
CLIMBING THE ALL TIME RANKINGS
Gabbie Bohl became the 18th Marauders to score her 1,000 career point. She reached the milestone just one game into her junior year. She has since moved into 14th on the all time rankings with a total of 1,155 career points. She recently passed Nicole Meier (2002-06) who scored 1,129 points during her career. Bohl will be tracking down Renae Amundson (1986-90) next, Amundson has 1,180 career points. The junior forward has moved into 20th all time in career rebounds with 476. Cassie Askvig joins Bohl in the top 25 all time in career rebounds ranking 22nd with 456. Askvig also moves into 34th all time in points scored with 804.
 
NEARING MILESTONES
Head Coach Rick Neumann is nearing the 100 win milestone. He is currently sitting at 96 wins. The UMary women's basketball program is nearing 700 wins. The Marauders need just 12 more wins to reach this mark. 
 
SOUND ALL-AROUND
Cassie Askvig has been incredibly well rounded and consistent in nearly every aspect of the game for UMary. The junior is averaging 17.4 PPG, 8.2 RPG and 2.4 APG. Askvig is shooting 48.6 percent from behind the arc and 51.4 percent from the field.
 
NSIC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Gabbie Bohl was named NSIC North player of the week for her performance the weekend of December 7-8. The junior averaged an NSIC high 28.5 PPG to go with her 13.5 RPG. She recorded a career high of 30 points against UMD. She posted a big double-double with 27 points and 19 boards to go along with three blocks against SCSU. She shot 75 percent from the field against UMD. She knocked down 13-14 free throws against SCSU
