Aberdeen, SD – The University of Mary had a big chore on their hands when the Marauders took on one of the nation's toughest teams in the Northern Sun conference opener. Ranked third in the country, Northern State University showed the notoriety is deserved, sweeping the Marauders in three straight sets (25-12, 25-13, 25-11).
UMary never lead in any of the sets against Northern State. The Wolves posted an impressive .556 hitting percentage compared to the Marauders .024. This loss drops the Marauders to 3-6 on the season and 0-1 in the NSIC. The Wolves are 9-0 and 1-0.
Serving was a high point in the Marauders game against the Wolves. UMary accounted for more aces than the Wolves in the match as junior
Anna Nietfeld led the way with two.
The Wolves stout defense made it difficult to consistently get anything going.
Morgan Schnabel led the team with eight kills with
Katja Berge adding another five.
Hailey Busch led NSU with 15 kills and didn't have an attack error in her 22 attempts.
The Marauders are back in action this Saturday for their home opener against Minnesota State University Moorhead at 6 pm at the McDowell Activity Center.
