Second half outburst sinks Marauders in loss to Golden Bears

St. Paul, MN – In a series traditionally dominated by the University of Mary women's soccer team, the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears overcame history to defeat the visiting Marauders 3-0 in Northern Sun competition.

The Marauders are 13-3-1 all-time against the Golden Bears.

In a defensive-minded first half for both sides, neither team had a shot on goal but the Marauders had opportunities. Caylin Cathey had her shot blocked following a corner kick in the 30thminute and an Emma Davies header attempt missed wide in the 43rd minute. Both teams finished the first half with four shot attempts but none were on frame.

The Golden Bears broke through in the 54th minute on a goal from inside the box from Emily Boyer. Concordia-St. Paul put the game away with a pair of goals less than two minutes apart in the 80th and 82nd minutes of play.

The Marauders (3-5-1 / 2-4-1 NSIC) were limited to nine shots in the game and just one on goal, which came in the final minute of play in the game. The Golden Bears (6-1-2 / 3-1-2) posted 11 shots with three on frame.

Eight different UMary players had shots in the game. Malia Brudvik led the Marauders with two shots with one on frame.

The Marauders return home for a pair of games next weekend for senior and family recognition weekend. On Friday, Oct. 5, UMary hosts the University of Minnesota Crookston at 3 pm. Then on Sunday, Oct. 7, nationally-ranked Bemidji State University faces at UMary at 1 pm. Both games are set for the MSU Resources Community Bowl.
