UMary men's soccer suffers heartbreaking double overtime loss to Dakota Wesleyan

Bismarck, ND – The University of Mary men's soccer team fell to the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in a heart breaking double overtime loss. In a game a where the Marauders dominated in nearly every statistical category, UMary just could not find the back of the net. Despite controlling the ball the majority of the game the team fell to the Tigers 2-1.

With the loss the Marauders fall to 2-5-1 on the season.

The Marauders rifled off 26 shots with 12 shots being on goal, compared to the five for the Tigers. The Marauders also blasted 15 corner kicks but were not able to take advantage of the opportunities.

The Marauders lone goal was scored off of a penalty kick by Alberto Asencio in the 80th minute of action. The senior recorded his second goal of the season as he blasted the ball past the keeper for Dakota Wesleyan.

The Tigers recorded their lone goal in regulation in the 43rd minute of action when Cesar Tabares was led up the field by Sorobabel Lopez Rojo for a one-on-one shot against the keeper that Tabares won.

The first overtime was a thriller with the Marauders having plenty of opportunities to end of the period. The Marauders fired off six shots in the final three and a half minutes of the first overtime but couldn't convert despite several good looks.

In the 104th minute of match play the Tigers ended the game the same way they scored their first goal of the game. Cesar Tabares received a long pass from Tyler Anderson that lead him to a one-on-one shot against the goalie that he won again, clinching the victory for the Tigers.

The match between the Marauders and the Tigers was very chippy, featuring six yellow cards and two red cards on the Tigers and two yellow cards and one red card on the Marauders.

The Marauders look to get back to their winning ways as they head down to Aberdeen, SD, on Monday, October 1, for a match against Presentation College at 3 pm. The Marauders return home on October 21 for their final home match of the year against Fort Hays State University.
