UMary Men's Soccer Gains 1-1 Draw Against Brandon

PORTAGE LA PRAIRIE, MB –The University of Mary headed up north to Canada for a game against the Brandon University Bobcats. Despite dominating the stat line, the Marauders played the Bobcats to a 1-1 tie.

The Marauders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute of the first half. Alberto Ascencio received a header from Jaden Allen that put Ascencio in the perfect position to knock in the goal and provide the Marauders the lead.

The Marauders held the one goal advantage until the 63rd minute of the match when the Bobcats were able to convert on a penalty kick. The game remained tied a one goal apiece until the final buzzer rang.

Despite the 1-1 tie, the Marauders dominated every stat on the stat line. The Marauders were able to get off nine shots on goal compared to the Bobcats mere three. UMary took seven more corner kicks than the Bobcats did as well.

Other than allowing in one goal off of a Penalty kick, Lukas Billhardt was a wall in the goal, blocking every shot that came his way and finishing with three saves.

Ascencio's goal was his first recorded counter of the season. Ascencio recorded two goals during the 2017 season.

The Marauders return home to the University of Mary pitch on Sunday, September 30, at 3 pm to take on Dakota Wesleyan University. The Marauders scrimmaged Dakota Wesleyan earlier in the season.
