Marauders edged in single goal game by Yellow Jackets

BISMARCK, ND – In the final game of the Marauders Classic, the University of Mary men's soccer team closed out the four-game set with a match against the Montana State University-Billings Yellow Jackets. The Marauders played tough, aggressive, and resilient  soccer but in the end the visiting Yellow Jackets who took home the win 1-0.

Both teams had their chances to get the ball into the net with the Marauders getting off three shots on goal and the Yellow Jackets managing five.

The Yellow Jackets were the only team that was to convert a shot, scoring a goal in the 23rd minute when Dana Kowachek struck the ball from the left side of the box into the lower right side of the net.

UMary fought hard until the end of the match, getting off six shots in the second half. The men had a no-quit attitude all the way up until the very last second, battling to get the ball in the net.

Both teams brought their physicality to the match and the referees let them play. The chippy match featured 27 fouls, four yellow cards and a red card.

MSU Billings held a 14-10 edge in shots.

Lukas Billhardt had four saves for the Marauders.

In the earlier game of the Marauders Classic the Simon Fraser Clan took down the Oklahoma Baptist Bison by a score of 6-0.
