BISMARCK, ND – Scoring twice in the final ten minutes of play, the University of Mary men's soccer team came out victorious against the University of Jamestown 3-1 in their season-opening exhibition match.
After falling behind 1-0 just ten minutes into the game the Marauders seemed to flip a switch. Last year's points leader,
Joel McIlroy, scored UMary's first goal off of a penalty kick in the 31
stminute to send the game into halftime tied 1-1. It was the first of three unanswered goals by the Marauders.
Adam Stringer scored the winning goal after Jimmies keeper Bishop Chapman made an initial save on a shot by
Gabriel Carvalho in the 81
st minute. A goal by
Austin Ellingson doubled the Marauders lead seven minutes later off an assist by
Pablo Torne.
UMary has a week to prepare for its upcoming exhibition match against Concordia College (Minn.) on August 25 at 1 pm on the University of Mary campus.
