ABERDEEN, SD – Big blows late in the game by both
Connor Doll and
Jesus Payan lifted the University of Mary baseball team to their first Northern Sun win of the season, rallying past the Wolves 4-3 in the opener. The visiting Marauders lost a late lead in the second game to fall 7-4.

The Marauders scored single runs in each of the last four innings of the game to edge past the Wolves. The win was the first of the conference season for UMary and snapped a 26 game losing skein. After scoring on a
Nick McCann single in the fourth, a
Connor Doll double in the fifth scored
Seth Siverson to tie the game at 2-2. Doll drove home the go-ahead run in the sixth before
Jesus Payan hit his first home run of the season in the seventh to give UMary a cushion it ended up needing.
PIVOT POINT
Tied at 2-2, a pair of 2-out walks to
Nick McCann and Siverson kept the inning alive for the Marauders. Doll took advantage of the opportunity to single through the left side of the infield to score McCann from second with the go-ahead run.
The Marauders held off a late rally by the Wolves in the seventh. With the bases loaded and one run already across,
Chris Scott induced a ground ball to
Darius Barlas at third, who raced to the bag for the force and the final out of the game.

Doll was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Siverson was 2-for-3 with a run scored.
Payan hit his first home run of the season.
McCann had an RBI, a run scored and a base hit.
Collin Gudereit gave up just two runs in four innings, striking out three. He allowed seven hits and no walks.
Will Karrer earned the win after pitching 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed one hit, one run and three walks while striking out two.
Chris Scott walked two and struck out one hitter in .2 innings to earn his first save of the season.
Jack Schmidt had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs for NSU.

The top four hitters in the Marauders lineup combined for six of the seven hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Looking for the doubleheader sweep, the Marauders took a 4-3 lead in the eighth inning on a Payan home run to left, his second of the day and the season. Northern State then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to earn a split on the day.
PIVOT POINT
The Wolves rallied for four runs in the eighth inning after two outs and no one on base. After a hit batter and two walks, Jack Schmidt hit a two-run double to give the Wolves a 5-4 lead. Immediately Dakota Stilson followed with a 2-run single through the right side to put the game out of reach at 7-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Payan was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Siverson had his second 2-hit game of the day and drove in a run.
Scott was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Travis Stevens held the Wolves at bay for seven innings, allowing just three runs on two walks and nine hits. He struck out four.
Stilson had three hits and two RBIs for NSU. Ben Carolin also had three hits and scored three times.

The Marauders spread out their nine hits among six hitters. Five Wolves players accounted for their 11 hits.
