Marauders lack bite in losses to Wolves

ABERDEEN, SD – Held in check offensively throughout the day, the University of Mary baseball team suffered a pair of Northern Sun road losses. The Marauders dropped the opener 7-2 and fell 7-1 in game two to the Wolves.

Control issues by the Marauders and a pair of timely doubles by the Wolves doomed UMary in the opener.
 
PIVOT POINT
Already leading 1-0 after one inning, the Wolves parlayed four walks and two doubles into five runs in the second. All five runs scored with two outs. A leadoff walk, two ground outs and a wild pitch scored the first run. Then three 2-out walks and back-to-back two-run doubles by Dakota Stilson and Lucas Lorenz put the game out of reach for the Marauders at 6-0.  
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
Cody Fourre went 2-for-3 to produce half of the Marauders hits in the game.
 
Connor Doll was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
 
Jaxon Ford was also 1-for-3 with an RBI.
 
Travis Stevens scored the Marauders other run.
 
Andrew Brooks allowed just one run and three hits in 3.1 innings of relief. He also struck out three hitters.
 
Five Wolves each had one hit for NSU.
 
Thomas Sertic didn't allow an earned run in five innings for the Wolves.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
Marauders pitchers walked ten hitters in the game.

Limited to four hits in the opener, the Marauders collected two hits in the second game. Fourre scored the Marauders lone run in the fifth on an error.
 
PIVOT POINT
A two-run home run by Jack Schmidt in the third inning provided the Wolves all the runs they needed in the third inning. Northern State then added three more in the fourth.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
After posting two hits in the opener, Fourre reached base twice in the second game after being hit by a pitch and receiving a walk. He scored the Marauders lone run.
 
Ford and Seth Siverson had the Marauders two hits.
 
Ian Fisher pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
 
Alec DeMaria allowed just one hit and one run in three innings of relief to close out the game.
 
Seven batters had hits for NSU.
 
STAT OF THE GAME
The Marauders collected just two hits in the game and six in the doubleheader.

The Marauders conclude the weekend with two more games on the road against the Wolves in Aberdeen, SD, on Sunday, April 22. First pitch is set for noon.
