Williams cracks 1,000 career points as Marauders overwhelm Beavers

BISMARCK, ND – Dani Williams quickly eliminated all doubt on when she would become the latest University of Mary women's basketball player to score 1,000 points in her career, And if there was any doubt about the outcome of the game, those concerns were eliminated shortly after in the Marauders 76-51 win over visiting Bemidji State University.

Needing just a single point to become the 17th player in Marauders history to reach 1,000 points in a career, Williams nailed a 3-pointer within the first 20 seconds of the game on the Marauders opening possession. From just outside the right wing of the arc, the senior from Gillette, WY, nailed her signature shot to cement her name in UMary history.

The Marauders, who never trailed in the contest, scored the final seven points of the first quarter to take an 18-10 lead. Another run of 15-3 to close out the second quarter pushed the UMary advantage to 37-20 at intermission.

UMary continued to overwhelm Bemidji State in the second half as the Marauders grew their lead to 70-31 early in the fourth quarter.

Cassie Askvig led the Marauders efforts with her ninth double double of the season, pairing 20 points and 15 rebounds. She also added four assists. Lauren Rotunda posted 16 points, four assists and three rebounds. The sophomore guard made all three of her 3-point attempts and finished 6-of-9 from the field. Gabbie Bohl added 15 points.

Williams finished the game with eight points, three assists and two steals. She currently has 1,007 points in her UMary career.

Brooklyn Bachmann led BSU with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Marauders defense overwhelmed the Beavers as BSU connected on just 31 percent of their field goal attempts. UMary shot 47 percent for the game, went 14-of-19 at the line, was +8 on rebounds and +4 on turnovers. The home team held a 36-18 edge in points in the paint.
